Often when we think of divine appointments, we think of those encounters in which the Gospel hearer is resceptive and open and seems to have had the soil well tilled already. But should we only count the encounters that seem to go really smoothly as divine appointments, or should we count the tough ones as well?
Yesterday I was in Target handing out tracts and I figured that while I was there I would do some shopping. I had passed by a young man earlier on and I did not give him a tract even though I felt led to do so. Later on as I was walking around, I saw the same guy again. This time I was not going to ignore the push of the Holy Spirit.
I walked right up to him and and said, "Hey, did you get one of these?" He gladly took the million dollar bill out of my hand and so I walked off. I thought to my self, "All right, Lord, I have done what you wanted." Or so I thought.
Later on I was over in the men's t-shirt section just poking around looking at the occultic symbols on the clothing when suddenly the guy from earlier comes up to me and hands me a now crumpled up million dollar bill.
"Wow, I can't get away from this guy," I thought to myself.
I mustered up the courage at this point and asked why he didn't want the tract. He replied by telling me he thought that it was deceptive to put the Gospel on the back of a million dollar bill. I then asked him what he would have done if it had a message about atheism on the back. He eventually admitted that he probably would not have crumpled it up.
I then took him through the commandements and showed him that his sin was against God. I then confronted him about his unwillingness to humble himself before God. That guy stayed and talked with me for almost an hour, he was that convicted.
We shook hands when he left, however he was still not broken over his sin. I prayed for him after he walked away and was greatly sorrowful in my heart. I can truly relate to our Lord's heart when the bible says, "and Jesus having loved him." I do hope that that guy gets saved.
Well, you be the judge. Was that just a series of random events, or was that a divine appointment?
God Bless,
David
